for recent screenings please see individual films' sections. in january 2010, max hattler and noriko okaku performed oh yes at vienna independent shorts: kurzfilmzimmer in vienna, austria. noriko and max also premiered two a/v sets in london: (O) at the 7th london short film festival , and /\/\/\ at electrovision . drift was shown in a videoformes special on souvenirs from earth tv on 22+23 jan, repeating monthly thru 2010. in december 2009, max showed and discussed work at southampton solent university . he vj'ed across 3 screens at ex mercedes benz in neu-ulm and at jackbox nye at sucasa in ulm, germany. kate taylor wrote about max and his new short film spin on electric sheep . and the book artist in residencies around the world came out, including two pages about max. in november 2009, aanaatt received a special mention 'for the art form' at no-festival of video art and animation in chelyabinsk, russia. max was interviewed for animate projects' apengine . max and noriko performed live a/v set oh yes in belgium at international short film festival leuven and at cimatics festival in brussels. max was on the jury at fredrikstad animation festival in norway. the festival also presented 'oblique narratives: max hattler & noriko okaku retrospective', as well as the world premiere of /\/\/\, a 3-screen live animation performance by max and noriko. also in november, max attended exground filmfest with aanaatt; he gave a lecture/screening at ravensbourne college of design and communication ; and he presented his work - including an exclusive mini-preview of spin - at the relaunched pecha kucha night london . the book limited language: rewriting design - responding to a feedback culture by colin davies and monika parrinder came out, featuring collision. in october 2009, andrew selby's book animation in process came out, featuring max in-depth with striper v0.1. max started teaching animation at goldsmiths again. and he embarked on a professional doctorate in fine art at his second teaching place, the university of east london . max attended dok leipzig with aanaatt; he presented a screening of his films, followed by live a/v set remixing the past at optica festival in madrid; and he had a retrospective with q&a at branchage jersey international film festival. branchage also presented a 'max hattler case study' as part of the short sighted panel discussion by bafta + shooting people. in september 2009, aanaatt won the award for best design at eksjö animation festival in eksjö, sweden. max was at discovery 09 in amsterdam, where he played an experimental [3D camera + 3D laser scanner data] headline VJ set with help from enist and alex bucksch of TU delft. max also attended square eyes: hertz & lux / made in arnhem in arnhem, holland, presenting films and performing oh yes with noriko okaku. in august 2009, max was on the jury at muuuvi festival in transylvania, where he also played oh yes with noriko. in july 2009, max and noriko performed oh yes at curtas vila do conde in portugal. in june 2009, max attended annecy animation festival thanks to support from the british council . he also did a screening + talk at wellington college . and glastonbury festival showed a full-length recording of oh yes. max's where's your head at concert visuals for basement jaxx were featured on promo news , animation show , 'boards , creative review , netribution , videostatic , directors notes , page , and more. max was interviewed for jotta magazine and for the film london website . aanaatt won the host award at videofestival bochum . the film also forms the focus of an interview with max on videopark (in german), and it was featured in inmotion . in may 2009, max gave a lecture on abstract animation at volda university college in norway. he presented a programme of german experimental films at image forum festival in tokyo with robert seidel . nano universe released max's limited edition collision t-shirts in japan - you can read about it in the may paper issue of someone's garden (in japanese). max also played oh yes live with noriko okaku at birobox workshops in nottingham, uk. in april 2009, max and noriko premiered oh yes at moves09 in manchester. max also held a 5-day filmmaking masterclass at ferienakademie roggenburg in germany, and the accompanying exhibition 'kunst (er)schöpft' showed four of his films. revija amaterskog filma in zagreb presented a screening of six of max's works, and he spent a day at southampton solent university , showing and discussing films. aanaatt was featured in repérages magazine + accompanying expérience[s] dvd. since april drift is screening on german-french video art tv channel souvenirs from earth . in march 2009, max finished creating concert visuals for the egg. in february 2009, max was one of five featured artists at tratado de integracion: legion.02: refresco! in neuquen, argentina. he did a talk at southampton solent university and started teaching on the moving image and animation degrees at the university of east london . in january 2009, max did talks at khm / academy of media arts in cologne and at ravensbourne college of design in london. he also attended international film festival rotterdam with aanaatt thanks to a film london film-makers festival fund travel award. ian lumsden featured drift on his animation blog and directors notes published an interview with max about aanaatt. in december 2008, the max hattler vs. robert seidel dvd was released for sale in japan by uplink . in november, jemapur's 'evacuation' cd+dvd was released by w+k tokyo lab , it includes aanaatt. max spent october and november 2008 in paris, working on his short film spin with french production company autour de minuit . also in november 2008, he also did a lecture and performed live visuals with noriko okaku at animated dreams festival in estonia, presented his work in tokyo, did a talk the royal college of art , and performed his remixing the past live set at exground filmfest in germany. aanaatt featured in boards and max was interviewed by sprayblog and moonlinx.jp . in october 2008, max was on the jury at curtocircuito festival in spain, and also performed remixing the past there. the book re-imagining animation - the changing face of the moving image by pauls wells and johnny hardstaff came out, featuring max's film drift. aanaatt was mentioned on countless blogs including motionographer and stash feed, with a nice interview on white-screen . and webdice.jp published an interview with max and robert seidel. japanese cg world, someone's garden magazine and quotation magazine all included rather sizeable articles about max's work. drift was featured in issue 22 of specialten dvd magazine, and it won awards for best digital film at london international animation festival and best experimental film at muuuvi festival in romania. storm studios in oslo signed max as a director for scandinavia. in september 2008, max was a guest at animae caribe in trinidad and animationvolda festival in norway, screening films and performing live visuals. in august and july 2008, max played live visuals for the egg at camp bisco in new york state, usa, and at haselstock festival in england. finally, please click here for details of max hattler and robert seidel's 23-event 5-week japan tour in april and may 2008. |
